Catalonial

Cunard's first iron ship to be completed under its new name, The Cunard Steam-Ship Company was the Catalonia in 1879 and she was specifically designed for the Boston emigrant service.
In addition to the 1,500 steerage passengers she carried up to 200 Saloon Class. However she proved to be rather a slow ship but one notable event in her career was that she was the first Cunarder to use Liverpool's new floating Landing Stage and was one of the first ships to be taken up for service by the Government during the South African War.
