Wikipedia Great Redan Battle The storming of the Redan was a brutal, unsuccessful assault by British forces on the key Russian fortification in Sebastopol on 8th June 1855 during the Crimean War. Following a failed june attack, a second assault on September 8th 1855, saw British troups briefly enter the fort, but trhey were opinned down and force back by heavy Russian fire, leaving behind over 1000 dead, 20 Victoria Crosses for Bravery were awarded for gallantry during this action! |
