| ALLEGED DETENTION OF LUGGAGE. At the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr, M. W. Northcroft, R.M., Walter Medus, of Wood-street, Ponsonby, comedian, sought to recover from the Northern Steamship Company the sum of £10, for alleged detention of luggage. The plaintiff asked for the return of two trunks containing wearing apparel, or their value, £5, and also claimed £5 as damages. Mr. C. Madden appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. S. Hesketh for the defendant company. The plaintiff stated that he arrived in Auckland from Paeroa on the 1st February. His boxes were put in the shed on the wharf. Afterwards when he went for them the clerk refused to give them up saying that they were part of a consignment of goods belonging to the Dunbar Dramatic Company, and that there were charges amounting to £2 to be paid. Witness afterwards saw Mr. Ranson, the manager of the Northern Company but could get no satisfaction from him. Witness told Mr. Ranson that the two boxes belonged to him, and had nothing to do with the Dunbar Company. Clement White, advance agent of the Dunbar Dramatic Company, also gave evidence. Further hearing of the case was adjourned until Thursday. |
