Athol's parents we dead set against his marriage as Gaynie had Moari blood that was a no no in those days. As a result they had to marry in a reg office .
Gaynie worked in a dress making factory as a machinist and Athol was a hat blocker but by 1946 was a metal polisher (as was his wife's brother) he progressed to being a fitter and turner for a freezing works.

Athol had 3 bad falls at work and the last one is the one we think was the cause of his death :He was working in a huge vat that was empty and he fell and hit his head and we think he was not the same since, loosing his memory, in those days doctors didn't know a lot about tumors and were not doing anything for him until Mums brother took him to hostital and said he was not going to take him away until they found out what was wrong with him thats when they found the tumor and they operated on him and he died on the operating table.
