Cleave, and Hall, The dramatic temperance entertainment given by Mr and Mrs Harriion last evening in the Oddfellows Hull was very successful, those who were present being highly pleased with the performance. In delineating the several characters in the temperance drama entitled " Examaple V. Precept," and also in the piece* " The Father's Broken Vow," "Drink," and "The Livin» Monument," they were very clever. Mr Harrison, although now a total abstainer, was fully at home in the character of the drunkard, frequently amusing the audience with his witticism, showing he had not forgotten all bis funny sayings when travelling as " Max Rinkle." Mrs Harrison also was specially good in the pathetic parts, and in her rendition of the songs " Father Come Home," and " Where is my Wandering By to-night," she was greatly applauded. The duets, melodies, and recitations were all well rendered, and the tableaux were very effective. Mr Harrison, at the close of the entertainment, thanked the audience for their attendance, and informed them that Mrs Harrison and himself were under an engagement for the Waikato district, and as far as Te Aroba, after which it was very probable tbat they would return to Auckland via the Thames, in which case it was likely they would give another entertainment here in about a month hence. Miss Bateman played the accompaniments throughout the evening in a very efficient manner. |
